Of course, basketball was played in East Germany. Back then ZEHA focused more on professional sports and less on leisure activities. The designers, Sylvia Muzzatti and Alexander Barré, eventually found inspiration in the designs of the ZEHA Handballer and Volleyballer. That’s why the Basketballer features characteristic hi-top silhouette and a light rubber sole. The off-white outer soles promote traction on diverse surfaces so that whether on the streets or through the parks one strides at peak performance.
The athletic design of these premium leather sneakers of the finest leather in the freshest autumnal tones strikes an elegant note. However, the leather of the new Basketballer should also be robust, durable, and hard wearing. After a thorough search, the finest vegetable tanned calfskin and cowhide cut from the flank of the cow was found in Tuscany. This leather is certified “Pelle Conciate al Vegetale in Toscana.” This label guarantees a human, animal, and environmental respectful circular production, whereby a vegetable tanning is the only method. No animals are harmed in the production. The leathers are in the end byproducts of the food industries, specifically for dairy farms in the European Union. In this way, we’re contributing together, ZEHA and you, with a sneaker to the reduction of our environmental footprint. Like all ZEHA collections, the Basketballer is designed in Berlin and handmade of premium leathers.
