Zeha Fotoshooting mit Wet Plate Fotografie

Vor einiger Zeit hatten wir das Vergnügen, ein Fotoshooting der etwas anderen Art in unseren Läden zu haben. Kollodium Nassplattenfotografie ist einer der ältesten fotografischen Prozesse, der auch als Wet Plate Photography bezeichnet wird. Christian Klant ist ein professioneller Fotograf mit Sitz in Berlin, der sich besonders auf das Kollodium Nassplattenverfahren spezialisiert, um Portraits und Landschaften zu fotografieren .

Wir hatten eine tolle Zeit beim Fotoshooting, und die Bilder sind sehr schön geworden. Mit einer speziellen Blitztechnik produziert das Kollodiumverfahren ausgesprochen eindrucksvolle Bilder, deren Vintage-Charakter das Zeha’s Image als Heritage Modemarke perfekt wiedergibt. Wir freuen uns, ein kleines Interview von Christian mit euch zu teilen und bedanken uns für die wunderbaren Fotos, die er von unseren Stores in Prenzlauer Berg, Kreuzberg und Schöneberg aufgenommen hat.

Wie würdest Du Dein fotografischen Stil beschreiben und mit welchem Equipment arbeitest Du?

Ich glaube die kürzeste Beschreibung meines Stiles ist authentisch und emotional. Darin bin ich sehr gut. Das Kreieren künstlicher Welten überlasse ich lieber anderen.

Mein Equipment für die Zeha Kampagne besteht aus zwei Großformatkameras von denen ich eine selbst mit viel Liebe für’s Detail restauriert habe. Für das Zeha-Projekt habe ich mit 6 unterschiedlichen Objektiven gearbeitet, die zum Teil über 100 Jahre alt sind und alle einen ganz eigenen Look erzeugen. Das ist sozusagen meine Photoshop-Palette, die direkt an der Kamera hängt.

Das Verfahren mit dem ich arbeite heißt Kollodium Nassplattenverfahren (Wet Plate Process) und ist über 150 Jahre alt. Es bedarf viel Handarbeit um von den Rohchemikalien zum fertigen Bild zu kommen. Manche mögen das aufwändig nennen. Ich für meinen Teil liebe diese intensive Auseinandersetzung mit jedem einzelnen Bild.

Ich finde die Bildästhetik, die so entsteht passt unheimlich gut zu Zeha und den toll eingerichteten Ladenlokalen.

Was inspiriert Dich als Fotograf?

Mich inspirieren vor allem Dinge und Begegnungen, die mich berühren. Das kann die Arbeit anderer Fotografen sein oder auch etwas ganz anderes. Ich suche immer wieder ganz bewusst das Neue, das Unbekannte, um meinen Horizont zu erweitern. So entwickle ich meine Fotografie weiter.

Wie ist es mit Fotoshooting mit Zeha passiert?

Haha. Das ist eine lustige Geschichte. Ich hatte ein Paar Stiefel aus der Zeha Urban Classics Kollektion, an denen hatte sich eine Naht gelöst. Da habe ich eine E-Mail an Zeha geschrieben und meinte, dass das so doch sicher nicht gewollt ist. Alex hat mich dann direkt angerufen und meinte ich solle mit den Schuhen vorbei kommen. Das habe ich dann auch gemacht und wir sind so neben den Stiefeln auch über meine eigenen Arbeiten ins Gespräch gekommen. Was damals als Idee begann ist nun ein sehr schönes Wet Plate Projekt geworden.

Die Stiefel sind übrigens tip top repariert worden und ich trage sie immer noch und immer wieder.

Dein Lieblingsort in berliner Sommer?

Definitiv ein Lieblingsort im Sommer ist unser großer Garten. Ich lebe mit meiner Familie am nördlichen Rand von Berlin und wir haben hier richtig viel Platz. Wenn ich arbeiten will, dann ist es mein Studio mit der großen Dunkelkammer. Aber ich liebe es auch mitten drin im Treiben der Stadt zu sein und danach in einen der wunderbaren Seen im Umland zu springen. Es sind also eine Menge Lieblingsorte 🙂

Zeha Photoshooting with wet plate photography

A short time ago, we at Zeha had the pleasure of having a different kind of photography session, using a vintage technique called wet plate collodion photography. Christian Klant is a professional photographer based in Berlin, mainly using this wet plate collodion process to make potraits and landscapes.

We had a great time shooting, and the pictures turned out amazing. With beautifully crafted lightning, the collodion process definetly produces some of the most impressive vintage photographs perfectly suited to Zeha’s image as a heritage fashion brand. We are delighted to share this little interview with Christian Klant who took these georgous photos of our Zeha stores in Prenzlauer Berg, Kreuzberg and Schöneberg.

How would you describe your photographic style and what equipment do you use?

I think i would describe my style as autenthic and emotional. That’s one of my greatest strenghts.

My Equipment for the Zeha campaign consists of two large-format cameras of which I myself have lovingly restored to detail. This is sort of my Photoshop palette, which directly depends on the camera.

The method with which I work is called collodion wet plate process (Wet Plate Process) and is over 150 years old. It requires a lot of manual work to get from the raw chemicals to the finished image. Some might call that complicated. I for one love this close look at each image.
I think the visual aesthetic that arises fits so incredibly well to Zeha and their great interior furnishings.

What inspires you as a photographer?

My inspiration comes particularly from things and encounters that touch me. It can be the work of other photographers or something completely different. I am always consciously searching for the new, the unknown, to broaden my horizons. This is the way I develop my photography.

How did Zeha photo shooting come to you?

Haha. That’s a funny story. I had a pair of boots from the Zeha Urban Classics Collection, on which had a loose seam. I wrote an email to Zeha and explained the situation. Alex then called me directly and told me to come by with the boots. That’s what I did, and in addition we happened to talk about my own work. What started as an idea has now become a very nice Wet Plate project.
The boots have incidentally been repaired to tip top condtion and I still wear them over and over again.

Your favourite place in a Berlin summer?

My favorite place in Summer is definitely our large garden. I live with my family on the northern outskirts of Berlin and we have plenty of space. If I want to work, it’s my studio with large darkroom. But I also love to be in the middle of it, to be in the bustle of the city and then jump into one of the beautiful lakes in the surrounding area. So there are a lot of favorite places 🙂
